I wish that Central Bedfordshire Council’s licensing committee had not ignored the views of so many residents of Ampthill when it granted a lap dancing licence in the very heart of the town ( the picture of which is on this web link), and that they hadn’t ignored the relevant legislation which enabled them to reject the licence.
So my hopes for the future are that Central Bedfordshire Council takes into account residents’ evidence and follows the law and legal process correctly, which they did not do in this case.
Your website says “we all have hopes and dreams for the place where we live”. Having a lap dancing club in the centre of a residential small town, when bringing up two children, certainly wasn’t my hope and dream for where I live.

      Hi Jake,

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, as you say the Luton Savercard only covers students who live in Luton, and sadly we do not have anything similar here in Central Bedfordshire. It’s something we are looking in to, but we’re not able to do anything about quite yet.

If you don’t mind me asking, whereabouts in Central Bedfordshire do you live? A couple of our bus and train operators do special discounts for students (mainly for off-peak travel). If you let me know whereabouts you live, then I shall see if we can dig out some more information.

      Kind regards,

      James Gleave

That Central Beds stops wasting money and starts working with the former local councils to make one joined up cohesive entity and eliminates the duplication taking place. Returning to localised areas blurs the areas of responsibility on cross boundary areas. Central Beds wanted to be unitary, time they started acted as such!..stop acting as local councils in a unitary environment.

Bring back South Bedfordshire council…. all is forgiven at least when you called them they knew a little about the area you were talking about!

that we stop funding the Central Beds expansion in offices and power and go back to local councils. I really don’t care what they do in Biggleswade , but am passionate about Dunstable as I suppose someone from Biggleswade doesn’t care too much about Dunstable. And as for fairness yes we could all do with some of that, why should I pay more or less than someone in council tax because I live in a different county its a disgrace.

Phil, what you said makes sence and is very wise. Best decisions are made localy, or at least proposals, as you have other issues to consider, money control etc.
If you look at the bigger picture, UK is handing over controls to Europe, we are about to lose control of our financial centre of the world, London, and then what?
UK should pull out of Europe, that imposes an almighty mechanism of stupid rules that cost us to enforce them. Central controls are dangerous, people have lost their voice. I agree on your rates view too, within the county, but off course we should accept that Chelsea and Cambridge should pay more than Beds.
